Is Germany Facing an Acute Crisis of Workforce?
Short On Workforce? Try These Five Recommendations – part 2

Recruitment is resuming. What should we expect?

Our consultants monitor the job offers available in the EU. As restrictions have eased in the EU, the workforce market seems to resume its demand for skilled and unskilled workforce. However, the optimist trend and the shadow of a fourth pandemic wave  making its way in Western Europe are pushing companies to adopt a state of alert. What should we expect given these conditions?

Looking at the German workforce market, recruiters in Germany might find themselves in the difficulty of finding candidates for a large number of infrastructure railway projects, says the representative of our recruitment department. According to our human resources specialists, employees all over the EU will demand an increase in salaries.

“During the past year we have noticed how the recruitment market was in favour of employers but this was temporary. Candidates and employees are now recalibrating their needs and demands and they are now the ones making the rules of the game.” says Gabriel Florea, CEO of Geologic-HR.

As restrictions eased over summer, the demand for workforce will continue to increase and the job market status will slightly improve. Although summer brings the holiday vibes and a less demand for skilled and unskilled workforce as sites and projects are put on hold until autumn, there has been a significant decrease in unemployment.

When the pandemic struck, the whole EU including Germany had to adapt to a new reality. Many infrastructure companies and railway development projects were put on hold until new health and safety measures were put in place. Today the subsidised part-time work schemes (Kurzarbeit) proved to be a really good measure to support the economy of the country while hospitals were flooded with patients. The measure is still in place and comes to the aid of those industries who still have to face restrictions.

In the past weeks, though restriction measure were lifted, worries are starting to soar again as the number of infections is increasing again. Like most parts of the EU, Germany also has seen a slowdown in vaccination. Some industries like restaurants, retail and cultural venues are open for business. Railway development, railway infrastructure and railway operations are also open but are struggling to find ready-to-work personnel. With just over half the population now fully vaccinated, Germany is still far away to reach the level of heard immunity.

Companies active in railway, infrastructure development or transportation might consider compulsory vaccination for their workers to depressurize from the governmental restrictions but this will not lower the demand for workforce. Recruiting agencies might be a solution for this demand.

Geologic-HR mission is to help European companies select and import the human resources they need to optimize the activities they carry out. We recruit unskilled and skilled personnel for European companies developing railway and large infrastructure projects. Our candidates are thoroughly scanned before being selected and presented to our business partners.

At Geologic HR we put all our leadership and business skills into action for our business partners. We understand the market’s challenges and we are building innovative strategies and online campaigns to recruit the best temporary workers. Last but not least, we ensure that these jobs can deliver both core labour and a sustainable income, with legal protections, wages, and safety nets that are enjoyed by temporary workers in the whole EU, taking pressure from our partners in finding the right people.
